Hello and welcome to the Bazzill Basics blog today! Now I know that the saying goes “April showers brings May flowers” and my layout today was inspired by that saying. Because after all, after a shower of rain comes a rainbow right? I wanted to create a fun, bright rainbow-inspired layout to document a selfie of my daughter and I. Because 8 year old girls love rainbows. Because it’s the candid, imperfect snapshots that can sometimes mean the most.
When it came time to choose my rainbow cardstock colors, I decided to stick to cardstock from the Smoothies and Card Shoppe collections as I didn’t want any texture. And the colors are so vibrant! The cardstock colors that I used will be listed below in the supplies and here they all are, 7 colors in rainbow order! This makes me happy!
I arranged my rainbow in a “burst” design, coming from the lower left corner of the layout. Each color strip was also machine stitched into place for extra detail. I also added a few flicks of white mist over the background design.
I arranged a cluster, including my photo layered onto some patterned paper, in the bottom left corner. This is the perfect placement as it’s where your eye is naturally drawn with the “rays” and it also covers where the cardstock all meets in the corner – which is often a little imperfect! I added a title and journaling and just a few embellishments to finish off the layout.
I think that this layout will hang on my daughter’s wall for a while, as a bright and happy reminder that she is loved! And with the leftover rainbow of cardstock, I might just have to do a little creative cardmaking!
