Make An Impression: Color Made Easy

Leigh here today with a card to share.

Now, left to my own devices, I can find it very easy to stick with my favourite colours for card making… aqua, coral pinks, etc.

But every now and then, when I feel the need to shake things up a little, I go searching on Pinterest for some colour combos that fall outside of my regular comfort zone.

Case in point:

I came across this mood board on Pinterest and immediately thought how fun this would be for a summery card.

Here’s what I came up with:

I started by stamping along the base of my Classic Smooth: White cardstock with a Simon Says Stamp striped stamp in teal. Then I added a piece of Smoothies: Citron over top at an angle, followed by a strip of Smoothies: Grapefruit Bliss.

I diecut my popsicles (using Papertrey Ink’s Summer Sweetness die collection) from a piece of Teresa Collins woodgrain paper. I used these as my base for the sticks. Then, three of my popsicles were diecut from CS White cardstock and stamped in the navy, teal, aqua and yellow — I had so much fun stamping these!

One of the things that I love about mood boards — other than the colour combinations — is that I can often find inspiration in the photos! With this mood board, I was inspired by the white star on the lime background in the centre and decided to add a star to one of my popsicles. I diecut the popsicle using the Smoothies: Citron cardstock, stamped the star (from the same Simon Says Stamp stamp set as the stripes) and heat embossed it in white. When I’m heat embossing such a small diecut, I like to use my craft knife to hold down the diecut on my craft mat while I’m heating it —  it keeps  it secure and keeps my fingers safe as well!

I was also inspired by the white symbol on the aqua at the top centre of the mood board, so I added a leaf image (from Reverse Confetti’s Love Blooms stamp set) onto another popsicle that I diecut from Card Shoppe: Robin’s Egg cardstock, using the same method as I did for the star.

I stamped the sentiment (also from Summer Sweetness) in navy and teal. I love how smooth the Smoothies cardstock is — so perfect for stamping!

Thanks for looking!
