Paper Tales: Fun Hidden Journaling!

Well everyone, this is it! Christmas 2014 is just about here! I’m still determined to document a few activities about the lead up to Christmas. Always looking to add more of our stories into my projects, I took advantage of the yearly Santa photo to add a few other bits of information from our year! I created it in a fun “lift the flap” to reveal kind-of-way so my kids think it’s awesome!

Here’s a look at the 8″x8″ pocket page:

I kept the color scheme simple – my favorite White OP cardstock which I printed the journaling onto. Now for the fun bit – I also die cut a small star from each of the flaps to reveal just a small taste of the photo underneath! You’ve got to lift the flap to find out who!

Before I show you close up photos of each pocket, I wanted to explain how I made the flaps:

Step 1: Cut a piece of cardstock 8 & 1/4″ by 4″ and score at 4 & 1/8″.

Step 2: Die cut your star “window” .

Step 3: Type your journaling and print out on plain copy paper until the spacing and position is correct.

Step 4: Temporarily adhere your flap to the copy paper (I use a tape runner), lining up the printing where you want it to be and send it through the printer        again!

Once folded, you can slip the plain side of the card into the pocket and leave the folded flap over the top! Add your photos and embellishments and you’re done! My daughter gave it a test run this afternoon and was giggling and trying to peek under as I was reading it to her!

I embellished each panel the same and quite simply also – by adding a few splatters of Color Shine and a few die cut stars.

And finally, for my title card, I added a bit of texture to using some clear glitter paste. Then some simple banner strips from coordinating colors of Bazzill cardstock were layered under the title die cut. Here I’ve taken it out of the plastic pocket and held it up so you can see the effect of the glitter paste better.

So there you have it – a bit of a fun twist on traditional journaling! I hope you all have a very merry Christmas and I’ll see you back here on the Bazzill blog in the new year!
