You can use the pod. There is probably a little nutrition in the pod itself, but not much. You can use it or discard it as you like. I just grind the whole thing up in a coffee grinder, including the pod.
Thanks for all the great info about this plant! I do wish, however, that you would warn the people that gather it to wear gloves and long sleeves because of the large amounts of xanthotoxins in the aerial part of the plant. One gentleman reported that his wife had to go to the emergency room with severe skin burns because of it, and that it could cause blindness if rubbed onto the eyes, as well as severe scarring of the skin. Please devote a paragraph to safe handling of this plant so that people can avoid unnecessary trauma.Thanks so much, Sincerely, Rose
